Raymond 'Bucky' MassThe Raymond “Bucky” Mass Award for Officer Safety recognizes individual law enforcement officers or agencies that have made a significant and impactful change in their department by proactively addressing and implementing programs to promote officer safety, demonstrating their commitment to zero officers killed or injured.

This award honors “Bucky” Mass, a World War II veteran, who served his community of Shrewsbury, New Jersey as Chief of Police, Mayor, and humanitarian for over 56 years. Becoming his community’s first police officer in 1952, Bucky would serve 36 years as a law enforcement officer, 30 as Chief, and became an influential and impactful leader in his community. Bucky is remembered for his willingness to mentor younger officers, devotion to officer safety, and his contributions for making the State Associations of Chiefs of Police (SACOP) possible.
