University and College Police Section 2003 Scholarship Awarded
In May, the University & College Police Section of the IACP awarded Janelle Christman of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and Emily Theresa Bowdy of San Antonio, Texas, with scholarships in the amount of $1000. The Section’s Scholarship Committee selected Janelle and Emily for this recognition from a field of applicants because of their outstanding academic efforts and commitment to community.
Christman, a full-time student in good standing at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, will begin her junior year in the fall of 2003. She is studying in the areas of law enforcement, public safety and criminal justice. She is planning on using her bachelor’s degree to pursue acceptance into law school or to enter the police academy. Janelle serves as a volunteer for several university and community initiatives.
Emily Theresa Bowdy is attending St. Mary’s University in San Antonio full-time. She is in the process of completing her sophomore year and during the academic year she serves the university community by working part time in the office of the University Police Department. Emily volunteers for several San Antonio area community initiatives and has been a recipient of the University’s Presidential Scholarship Award.
The purpose of the University & College Police Section scholarship is to provide financial assistance to an outstanding student who is pursuing an undergraduate college degree related to any aspect of the criminal justice system. The scholarship award can be used to help defer the costs of tuition, books, fees, room and/or board. This is the second year of this annual scholarship program and the first year that two recipients were awarded scholarships.
