Troy Smith

Troy Smith is a Deputy Chief of Police with the Grand Junction Colorado Police Department where he is currently responsible for police services and administration, including a multi-agency regional communications center, $20 million budget, police records, information & technology, police training academy, evidence and the crime lab, internal affairs investigations, and the development of a new police facility. Previously, Troy was the deputy chief responsible for leading all aspects of police operations including, patrol services bureau, investigative services bureau, Western Colorado DEA Drug Task Force, SWAT, bomb disposal unit, traffic operations, airport operations, school resource officer program, community advocacy program, crime analysis section, and contract police service delivery at the Mesa State College. Troy was formerly employed with the Colorado Department of Public Safety, as the executive director of the Colorado Regional Community Policing Institute and the Colorado Police Corps. He served as a member of the state criminal justice management team, engaging in strategic planning on statewide criminal justice issues. Troy was also a commander with the Thornton Colorado Police Department, where he served for 10 years. Troy has led and managed field training programs, multi-jurisdictional law enforcement task forces, engaged in undercover investigations and SWAT operations. He is a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police, at the JFK School of Government, Harvard University; FBI LEEDS(law enforcement executive development school); has a Master Degree in Management from Regis University; and Bachelor Degree in Business from the University of Northern Colorado.
