Victim Response
Meeting the critical needs and addressing the trauma of crime victims, one of the primary constituencies of law enforcement, present complex challenges to police departments around the country. For over a decade, the IACP and its partners have worked collaboratively to develop a great number of valuable tools, resources, practices and training guidelines to assist agencies in their daily response to victims of crime.
The goal of this virtual victim resource center is to familiarize you with the history of victim response in the United States, provide links to hundreds of victim-related resources, publications and materials, as well as information about how you, as a law enforcement executive, can make a difference in the field of successful victim response and get national recognition for your agency’s innovative efforts.
Of special interest and value to any law enforcement agency regardless of its size, location, and availability of resources is a 21st Century Strategy for Enhancing Law Enforcement Response to Victims – the new IACP industry standard that builds upon community policing philosophy and practice. The strategy and its accompanying documents – Implementation Guide and Resource Toolkit – were developed by and for law enforcement, and the IACP project staff together with eleven agencies that field-tested the strategy, are ready to provide technical assistance and support to your department as you implement the strategy.
