Helping Families of Injured Officers Reach New Goals
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the cost of college tuition has risen 260% since 1980. This puts a strain on many families and can present considerable hardship for families of law enforcement officers who have been seriously injured in the line of duty.
The IACP Foundation is proud to announce new scholarships for families of law enforcement officers who have been seriously injured in the line-of-duty, through the Still Heroes Scholarship Fund.
Last year, Teron Merriweather, was awarded a cash scholarship through the Still Heroes Scholarship Fund to attend St. John’s University where he is studying biology and planning to become a doctor.
The Still Heroes Scholarship Fund is also an opportunity for an injured officer needing to make a career shift. Officer John Adsit of the Denver Police Department was seriously wounded in an accident in December 2014 and medically retired in May 2017. Because of this scholarship from the University of Phoenix, he is currently earning a degree in psychology and hopes to help other injured officers in his next career.
Helping families like these drives the mission of the IACP Foundation and the Foundation is grateful for the continued support of our sponsors and donors.
