IACP Reaffirming Support for the “No Notoriety” Campaign
After the horrific tragedy in Gilroy, California, the International Association of Chiefs of Police is reaffirming its support for the “No Notoriety” campaign. As the world’s largest law enforcement association, the IACP endorses this strategy, which seeks to keep to a minimum the mentions in the media of the person responsible for causing mass fatalities. The parents of a victim of the 2012 movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado created the campaign designed to keep killers from the publicity or infamy they so often seek. By following and sharing #NoNotoriety, the IACP hopes law enforcement agencies, media outlets and anyone discussing a mass attack will stand together to deny celebrity status to those who commit such abhorrent acts.
