IACP’s Internship Program – Hiring for the 2019 Summer Term
Since its inception in 2009, the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s (IACP) Internship Program has had 130 current or recent students engaged in the program. The IACP’s Internship Program provides young professionals with an interest in the criminal justice system the opportunity to get first-hand experience in issues related to the policing profession.
Many of our student internship applicants have an educational background in criminal justice, however occasionally there are specialized positions which require other degrees. For the Summer 2019 term, a variety of intern positions are available, with an application deadline of April 7, 2019. More information on the positions available and the application guidelines can be viewed on the IACP website.
The IACP prides itself on having an internship program that is not only paid, but that engages interns in content work that is of value to the law enforcement field. During the duration of their internship, interns often work on publications, reports, and special projects. Additionally, they often get to attend conferences, symposiums and other where they can network with law enforcement professionals and learn about new research and programs being used by law enforcement.
The IACP internship program also includes one field trip per term to provide interns with the opportunity to tour a law enforcement agency and ask questions of law enforcement professionals in the field. Past intern trips have included tours of the Quantico FBI National Academy, a visit to the Capitol Police Command Center, and a demonstration with the canines of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
An internship at the IACP is a great way to pursue one’s interest in policing and criminal justice. You will have the opportunity to learn what challenges are facing the global policing profession and what solutions and practices are being instituted.
