Interview with Chief Cerelyn J. Davis on IACP Annual Conferences
Every year law enforcement professionals convene to network with colleagues from across the world and gain insight on the latest trends and best practices in the field of law enforcement. There is much to explore and learn at IACP 2019. IACP interviewed Chief Cerelyn J. Davis, of Durham, North Carolina Police Department, and member of the IACP Board of Directors, about her experience with the IACP Annual Conferences. Check out her interview below!
Q: When was your first conference?
A: My first conference was in Boston in 2006.
Q: Who should attend IACP annual conferences? Why?
A: Any law enforcement professional who aims to improve themselves and their organization would find value in the IACP Conference. The conference provides attendees an opportunity to spend time with other leaders from across the world, while gaining new strategies, resources, and ideas.
Q: How has IACP annual conference been an impact on your agency?
A: The IACP Conference has had a positive impact on the Durham Police Department. We’ve been able to send leaders from across our agency – both sworn and non-sworn. Each year staff has returned with new techniques, programs, and ideas. Divisions such as Uniform Patrol, Crime Analysis, Criminal Investigations, and Public Affairs have benefitted from attending recent conferences.
Q: What makes you continue to return to the conference year after year?
A: As a leader, and a member of the IACP Board of Directors, it’s important for me to attend to not only handle IACP business, but to stay abreast of industry best practices, new technology that allows us to operate more efficiently, and to network and share ideas with other leaders as we continue to strive to keep our communities safe.
Q: What is your favorite part about the conference?
A: My favorite part about the conference is networking with other law enforcement professionals from around the world and learning best practices from the myriad of resources available. There’s no better place to gain knowledge and insight about our industry than attending this one-stop shop.
