New Policy Center Documents Available – Four Updated Topics!

Blog Post

The IACP Policy Center strives to provide updated guidance on topics of interest to law enforcement. Currently, members have access to documents on over 130 topics. Check out the updated documents to learn about the latest evidence-based procedures for the following topics:

Harassment and Discrimination

In a time where the costs of liability insurance continue to rise driving many towns to self-insure or join insurance pools, law enforcement executives have a vested interest in prohibiting workplace harassment and discrimination, both from a moral and an economic viewpoint. Develop updated procedures to prevent and appropriately respond to harassment and discrimination.

Juvenile Diversion and Custody

Implement the most contemporary law enforcement practices in your agency; develop procedures which concentrate on possible youth disparities, informal justice procedures, rehabilitative approaches, extrajudicial measures and sanctions, and positive law enforcement and youth interaction. Receive guidance on coordinating juvenile justice and delinquency prevention that meets the needs of juveniles while holding them accountable for their actions.

Social Media

Learn to make the most of social media’s collaborative and interactive communication to benefit your agency, mitigate the consequences of employee misuse of social media, and navigate the rapidly developing legal concerns surrounding social media use. Develop procedures which assist your agency in taking advantage of this platform to meet community outreach, problem-solving, investigative, and crime prevention objectives.

Volunteers

Volunteers can be an excellent source of support for an agency; they can provide desired services that sworn or civilian staff may not have the time or ability to provide, enhance community-law enforcement relations, and serve as agency ambassadors to the community. Receive guidance on implementing a program, including managing costs, determining the scope of volunteer roles, administering the program, recruiting and screening, placement and training, and more.
