Innovations
Each of these police agencies were previously grantees of the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation (BCJI) program, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) of the Office of Justice Programs at the U.S. Department of Justice. The BCJI program supports communities around the country in the development and implementation of data-driven, place-based, and community-oriented collaborative strategies to reduce crime, build interdisciplinary partnerships, and enhance trust. These five CTI demonstration sites were selected from experienced BCJI grantees to expand upon their community-police collaborative initiatives to build community trust.
Representing a diverse geographical spread, each CTI demonstration site has a distinctive history with their communities and their goals towards building and maintaining stronger relationships with the communities they serve were all unique. CTI aims to address community trust needs, improve public safety, and create a more inclusive and effective policing environment in these communities and the wider field. By prioritizing community input, trust-building, transparency, and accountability, the IACP strives to create stronger, more resilient communities and a more responsive and responsible police force.
